Lerya to set data ‘free’ (February 2006)
Dutch geological survey TNO and Norwegian software house Kadme consolidate open source-based data management solution in new unit.Norwegian data consultancy and software developer Kadme AS and the Dutch geological survey, TNO are setting up a joint venture, Lerya, to liberate E&P data from proprietary formats. Kadme and TNO have been collaborating on open source technology for use in National Data Repositories since 2002.
DINO
Last year (OITJ Vol. 10 N 1) the companies announce a standards-based IM solution for the upstream, an international version of TNOs DINO geo data repository as used to house Dutch geological and environmental data. Leryas software embeds Kadmes K-map and K-doc web services components that leverage open source tools such as the OpenGIS-based MapServer from the University of Minnesota, web services for remote portlets, JBoss and the mySQL database.
DISKOS
Lerya is bidding for the renewal of the prestigious Norwegian DISKOS data management contract, currently run by Schlumbergers SINAS unit using technology from Landmark, Petris and Kadme itself. Contract award is expected mid April. The word lerya is taken from Elvish, one of several languages invented by Lord of the Rings author J.R. Tolkien. Lerya means to set free, to liberate.
