IDC Energy Insights predicts ... (December 2013)Near $50 billion spend on upstream IT for 2016.
IDC Energy Insights’ guesses, sorry predictions, for future oil and gas IT spend are as follows. Companies will put more focus on ‘resiliency, security and innovation.’ Drilling risk mitigation and production optimization will drive big data adoption for analytics, along with new models for machine-to-machine connectivity and mobility.
The ‘smart pipeline’ (qu’est-que c’est?)concept is to gain momentum and the cloud will see an ‘uptick in adoption.’ Finally, upstream IT spend is to increase to ‘$49.4 billion’ by 2016—a figure so precise that it will definitely be wrong. Visit Energy Insights and listen to the webcast.
