University of Houston professors indicted (May 2014)

Integrated Micro Sensors founders alleged to have withheld fees.

Abdelhak Bensaoula and David Starikov, professors at the University of Houston, have been charged with making false statements in obtaining federal funds for research. The charges relate to the defendants’ startup, Integrated Micro Sensors, which received research grants from the small business innovation research program, NASA and the Department of Energy. The indictment alleges that the defendants failed to pay a required fee to the University of Houston on four of five contracts. The release from the US Attourney General’s office observes that ‘an indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence’ and that ‘a defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted.’
